Running a survey and interviews in the same project does not by itself create a mixed-methods design. The study should explain why both forms of evidence are needed and where they inform, connect with or challenge one another.
Review areas
- Purpose of the quantitative and qualitative strands.
- Sequence and priority of each strand.
- Sampling relationships between components.
- Integration during design, collection, analysis or interpretation.
- How agreement, complementarity and contradiction will be reported.
The final interpretation should make visible what is learned from integration that would not be available from either strand alone.
